Where these rates come from

Live exchange rates are pulled from Frankfurter.app, a free API backed by European Central Bank reference rates, updated once each business day. Because this runs entirely in your browser, you'll need an internet connection for the rate to load — if it can't reach the server, that'll be shown below the converter instead of a silently wrong number.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about exchange rates and how to use this converter.

How often are exchange rates updated?

Rates are pulled from Frankfurter.app, which sources European Central Bank reference rates. The ECB publishes updated rates once each business day (typically around 16:00 CET), so rates here reflect that daily snapshot rather than second-by-second market movement. For most everyday planning and budgeting purposes, that level of freshness is more than sufficient.

Why might my bank's rate differ from this one?

Banks and money transfer services almost always add a margin on top of the mid-market rate shown here — sometimes a few percent — plus flat fees, which is how they generate revenue on currency exchange. The rate in this tool reflects the reference mid-market rate, which is useful for understanding the 'true' value of a conversion, but you should expect any bank, card, or cash exchange to be somewhat less favorable.

What is a mid-market rate?

The mid-market rate (also called the interbank rate) is the midpoint between the buy and sell prices currency traders quote each other on the open market — essentially the 'real' exchange rate without any markup added. It's the benchmark rate you'll see quoted in financial news and is a useful reference point even though most consumer transactions happen at a less favorable rate.

Does this tool store or track my conversions?

No. The amount and currencies you enter are processed entirely in your browser and sent only as a rate lookup request to the Frankfurter API — no conversion history, amounts, or personal information are stored by this site.

Can I use this for sending money abroad?

This tool is meant for quick reference and planning — checking roughly what an amount is worth in another currency — not for executing a transfer. If you're actually sending money internationally, compare the total cost (rate plus fees) across a few transfer services, since the effective rate you receive can vary significantly between providers even for the same currency pair.
